Anyone who is a seasoned leader knows that leadership can at times be lonely. Leaders regularly face times of being misunderstood, criticized, blamed, and judged. However, the cost is worth it. The reward is worth it. Peoples lives being transformed is worth it. Your job isn’t finished yet. Keep running, persevering, and pioneering. Keep reforming, inspiring, and building. God believes in the vision and dream He has placed within your heart.

I’m disturbed by some great men and women of God who we hear have fallen. It’s because we’ve put ministers on a pedestal that were meant for a King. We’ve put men in a place where a man can’t be a man; they have to be immortal or omniscient, omnipotent. They can’t have problems. If they do have a problem, they can’t tell anyone their problem because religion says if you have a problem, you can’t be part of us. Because if you’re dirty, you’ll make me dirty. But Jesus touched dirty people and made them clean.

Jesus isn’t anti-command, not by a long shot. But for Jesus, leadership isn’t about coercion and control; it’s about example and invitation. He didn’t command us to follow his practices; neither did he give lectures on how to do them or offer Saturday morning workshops on developing your own rule of life. He simply set the example of a whole new way to “carry life”; then he turned around and said, “If you’re tired of the way you’ve been doing it and want rest for your souls, then come, take up the easy yoke, and copy the details of my life.”

The eleven tribal leaders wanted Aaron’s position, they didn’t consider him worthy. But the next morning they got up in Aaron’s rod had sprouted had buds, blossoms and ripe almonds. The point of anointed leadership is life; not just ripe moments, not just maturity. All leaders have to have maturity but they must also have areas where they’re just starting to learn. Kingdom leaders are marked by their continual development.

We give ourselves to prayer. We preach a Gospel that saves to the uttermost, and we witness to its power. We do not argue about worldliness; we witness. We do not discuss philosophy; we preach the Gospel. We do not speculate about the destiny of sinners; we pluck them as brands from the burning. We ask no man’s patronage. We beg no man’s money. We fear no man’s frown. Let no man join us who is afraid, and we want none but those who are saved, sanctified, and aflame.

Idolatry only happens when I accept your worship. If you treat me like I am more valuable than anybody else, and I cooperate with that, I’ve led us into idolatry. “I appreciate your respect, I appreciate your value for me, I appreciate even your submission to my leadership, but I need to know the truth.” I have to be willing to hear the truth.
