We become neighbors when we are willing to cross the road for one another. (…) There is a lot of road crossing to do. We are all very busy in our own circles. We have our own people to go to and our own affairs to take care of. But if we could cross the road once in a while and pay attention to what is happening on the other side, we might indeed become neighbors.

Preface any statement this way and I can guarantee you a sure-fire way to build walls, cause defensive responses and inhibit any heart-to-heart dialogue with those who might happen to disagree with you.

Whatever task God is calling us to, if it is yours, it is mine, and if it is mine, it is yours. We must do it together – or be cast aside together, and God in his absolute freedom goes on by other means to use His Church in hastening His Kingdom.
When a church is full of humble hearts who desire to outdo each other in love, honour and sacrifice, that church experiences unity.
In the essentials we need unity, in the non-essentials we need freedom; but in all things we need love.
