I would always distinguish revival from evangelism. Although often confused, the two are entirely different. Evangelism is winning the unsaved; revival has to do with the Christian. Evangelism is the permanent duty of the church; revival is a gracious outpouring of the Spirit of God.

Joy Dawson

If the Lord were to pour out revival upon the Body in the condition that we are in now, our current lack of unity would hinder us from being an adequate ‘vessel’ to hold and maintain the revival that He would pour out…I have changed my priority in prayer to pray for unity first, then revival. Unity in the Body is a direct answer to Jesus’ prayer in John 17, and a unified Body provides a proper ‘vessel” into which revival can be poured out.

A. W. Tozer

Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of late – and how little revival has resulted? I believe the problem is that we have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, and it simply will not work. To pray for revival while ignoring the plain precept laid down in Scripture is to waste a lot of words and get nothing for our trouble. Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience.

Richard Owen Roberts

When prayers and strong pleas for revival are made to God both day and night, when the children of God find they can no longer tolerate the absence of revival blessing, when extraordinary seeking of an extraordinary outpouring becomes extraordinarily earnest, and when the burden of prayer for revival becomes almost unbearable, then let praying hearts take courage; for the Spirit of God, who is the Spirit of revival, has brought His people to this place for His purpose.
