We humans are called to stand at the intersection of heaven and earth, holding together in our hearts, our praises, and our urgent intercessions the loving wisdom of the creator God and the terrible torments of his battered world.
Power
John Owen
We can have no power from Christ unless we live in a persuasion that we have none of our own.
Randy Clark
Jesus died so that we could spend an eternity with Him in Heaven, and so that we could live with His Spirit operating inside of us on the earth. His sacrifice did more than forgive you, it empowered you.
Mary Warburton Booth
Depend upon it, if you are bent on prayer, the devil will not leave you alone. He will molest you, tantalize you, block you, and will surely find some hindrances, big or little or both. And we sometimes fail because we are ignorant of his devices… I do not think he minds our praying about things if we leave it at that. What he minds, and opposes steadily, is the prayer that prays on until it is prayed through, assured of the answer.
Daily Glory Devotions
Have you ever seen one those paintings of Jesus where He is depicted as a tall lean blond man lounging in a field in a white robe holding a bunch of lambs? Who paints those things?
This is not the image of our God as depicted in His word. Jesus was a rough and burly man. Full of fire and passion. A warrior when it came to doing battle against those who offended the sacred things of the Father. Yet, in a moment, able to touch a young child with hands of gentleness. To us, the warrior is just as critical as the gentle shepherd. By His holy passion for righteousness, we are continually moved on to perfection. By His gentle love, we are continually comforted in our lessons of life. Let us never lose sight of the God who is a fierce warrior.
T Austin Sparks
The grace of God is a very great thing: it is mighty to save, to keep, to use, and to make us a blessing.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
One night alone in prayer might make us new men, changed from poverty of soul to spiritual wealth, from trembling to triumphing.
Frederick Brotherton ( F. B. ) Meyer
Would it not be the height of folly if Tasmania were to resolve to cut the supply of power from that mountain lake and to substitute handpower? Would not the factories soon close down, and the incipient harvest of prosperity suddenly wither? Yet it often seems as though the modern Church were in danger of making a similar mistake. In scores of cases she [the Church] is disconnecting herself from the dynamic of Pentecost, and is endeavouring to find compensation for her loss of spiritual power in brilliance of intellect in the pulpit, in highly organized and expensive machinery, and by calling to her aid incidental accessories, which are borrowed from the world; and which, even where they may be comparatively innocent, are totally unfit to secure the great ends for which she was called into being, according to the purpose and plan of her great Architect.
John Bunyan
Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.
Jeremy Taylor
Since the days of Pentecost, has the whole church ever put aside every other work and waited upon Him for ten days, that the Spirit’s power might be manifested? We give too much attention to method and machinery and resources, and too little to the source of power.
