He (the devil) always sends errors into the world in pairs–pairs of opposites…He relies on your extra dislike of one to draw you gradually into the opposite one. But do not let us be fooled. We have to keep our eyes on the goal and go straight through between both errors. We have no other concern than that with either of them.
Discernment

Leaders and Pastor: If your church is full of people who look like you, talk like you, and think like you, then you have failed to lead people to Christ. Your goal should never be to create a church full of ‘mini-me’s who think like you, dress like you, talk like you, and who agree with every doctrinal point you make. Your goal is to lead them to Christ and to allow His empowering grace to fashion each individual into a believer who can think for themselves, pull out Biblical truths for themselves, and who can rightly discern God’s will and direction for their lives. There should never be a spoken or unspoken threat to ‘tow the company line or else’ policy in your church structure.
Loren Cunningham
Hearing God is not all that difficult. If we know the Lord, we have already heard His voice – after all it was the inner leading that brought us to Him in the first place. But we can hear His voice and still miss His best if we don’t keep on listening. After the what of guidance comes the when and how.
A. W. Tozer
To believe actively that our Heavenly Father constantly spreads around us providential circumstances that work for our present good and our everlasting well-being brings to the soul veritable benediction. Most of us go through life praying a little, planning a little, jockeying for position, hoping but never being quite certain of anything and always secretly afraid that we will miss the way. This is a tragic waste of truth and never gives rest to the heart. There is a better way. It is to repudiate our own wisdom and take instead the infinite wisdom of God. Our insistence upon seeing ahead is natural enough, but is a real hindrance to our spiritual progress. God has charged Himself with full responsibility for our eternal happiness and stands ready to take over the management of our lives the moment we turn in faith to Him.

The first step on the way to victory is to recognize the enemy.

Let us not satisfy ourselves with a knowledge of God in the church service; a glance upon a picture never directs you to the discerning the worth and art of it.
John Wimber
We must obey a higher call if indeed we have heard and discerned it. Many believe they are walking out the Christian life, when in fact their lives are miserable because they are living in a way that’s inconsistent with the call of God and the revelation of Scripture.
J. Wilbur Chapman
Anything that dims my vision for Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps me in my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me; and I must, as a Christian turn away from it.
Samuel Bolton
It is my exhortation…to all Christians to maintain their Christian freedom by constant watchfulness. You must not be tempted or threatened out of it; you must not be bribed or frightened from it; you must not let ither force or fraud rob you of it…We must not give up ourselves to the opinion of other men, though they be never so learned, never so holy, merely because it is their opinion. Scripture directs us to try all things and to hold fast that which is good (1 Thess. 5:21). It often happens that a high esteem of others in respect of their learning and piety makes men take up all upon trust from such, and to submit their judgments to their opinions, and their consciences to their precepts. This should not be so.
Augustine
Wrong is wrong even if everybody is doing it, and right is right even if nobody is doing it.
