We shape our communities on Social Media around our preferences - despite this not being a Biblical ideal



By giving us control, our new technologies tend to enhance existing idols in our lives. Instead of becoming more like Christ through the forming and shaping influence of the church community, we form, and shape, and personalize our community to make it more like us. We take control of things that are not ours to control. Could it be that our desire for control is short-circuiting the process of change and transformation God wants us to experience through the mess of real world, flesh and blood, face-to-face relationships?

Yes, God wants to be our hiding place in times of trouble but he does not want us to use our relationship with him as an excuse to avoid confronting relational conflicts. Most heart issues with others are resolved only through brave communication, active listening, forgiving and restitution. It is never pleasing to God when we use our relationship with Him as a deflection or as an excuse to avoid those hard conversations that we must all face at one time or another in our lives.
