How can you know whether you are walking in truth or living a delusion? How can you discern if you are enlightened by God or deceived by the devil? There are two easy and completely reliable tests: humility and enemy-love. Grace produces humility and love of enemies. It just does. If I am an arrogant ass who treats his enemies harshly, no amount of religious striving can change that. My hubris [excessive self-confidence or arrogance] only magnifies my hate and baptizes it in self-righteousness. That’s what makes enemy-love such a good litmus test for the truth.
