1 Cor 15:55 -“Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?”

1 Cor 15:55 -“Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?”
This Holy Week as I reflect on all that Jesus did for me, I am forever grateful, but I won’t camp under the empty cross.

Take courage. The clouds that cover you this year may be darker than any you have yet known. They may linger long. They may seem to blot out the sun. But God knows how to take even these clouds, and through them work wonders so marvelous, so unlooked for, that they leave us on our knees in worship.

Christ-centred worship – which is event-oriented worship – can never be static and merely intellectual because what happens is an actual and real communication of the power and benefit of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. Worshipping churches recognize that every gathering of worship is ultimately praise and thanksgiving for the overthrow of evil by God in Christ. This victory not only happened two thousand years ago, but it happens today in the lives of people who bring to worship their own struggles against that evil which shatters relationships, oppresses the poor, and brings constant dislocation into life.

But I know Jesus arose. I feel his presence now, here, with me. I see the evidence of his Word every day. From creation forth, the whole world is witness to God’s plan revealed through his Son. From the beginning, he prepared us. In the passing of the seasons; in the way flowers spring forth, die, and drop seeds for life to begin again; in the sunset and sunrise. Jesus’ sacrifice is reenacted every day of our lives if we but have the eyes to see.

Maybe today was hard for you.
Maybe you’re in a difficult season.
Maybe grief has robbed your joy.
Maybe you “feel” all alone.
Maybe you wanted to find thanks and gratitude but circumstances have you feeling like life is more unfair than it is good.
Can I just tell you that, you made it.
The only way to get through hard things is to do just that:
Get through it.
You did it.
You’re through it.
And hope still abounds.
Joy is still to be found.
Mercies are new every morning.
Grace is still endless.
You are never alone.
And the only thing you have to be is to just BE.

Are you going through a battle today? Is your mind racing in a thousand directions as you wonder if you’ll make it through? Think back. Have you ever won a desperate battle, a prolonged battle that required all your strength and faith, a battle that you were not sure of the outcome and yet you continued to war? When the victory was finally won and the initial adrenaline-fueled elation faded, did you experience a quiet, profound peace? Remember that peace and stand on that testimony. God came through for you then and he’ll come through for you now.
God’s never been guilty of sponsoring a flop.

The Greeks had a race in their Olympic games that was unique. The winner was not the runner who finished first. It was the runner who finished with his torch still lit. I want to run all the way with the flame of my torch still lit for Him.
I saw a little bird recently flying high in the sky with strong winds blowing against it. I said to the Lord, “How can that small bird fly against those fierce winds?” The Lord said, “They were born that way. They were created to fly in winds of adversity. And so are you.”
