John Wellons

I am as careful about investing God’s money in a place where it will bring spiritual profits as I am in my own business investments. I feel worse about a bad investment made with God’s money than my own. God will hold us responsible if we do not give or if we give prayerlessly.

In David’s complaint to God, he said, “You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You”. He meant that to an eternal God our time on earth is brief. And He doesn’t want us to waste it. When we do, we throw away one of the most precious commodities He gives us. Each minute is an irretrievable gift – and unredeemable slice of eternity. Sure, we have to make the phone calls, and we must wait at the light. But what about the rest of our time? Are we using it to advance the cause of Christ and to enhance our relationship with Him? Is our time well spent?

Clement

The Lord ate from a common bowl, and asked the disciples to sit on the grass. He washed their feet, with a towel wrapped around His waist – He, who is the Lord of the universe! He drank water from a jug of earthenware, with the Samaritan woman. Christ made use His aim, not extravagance… We are not to throw away those things which can benefit our neighbour. Goods are called good because they can be used for good: they are instruments for good, in the hands of those who use them properly.
