While stating or implying that religion is the cause of these and other wars, some liberal professors talk as if atheists would never engage in such evils. Yet, let’s not forget the atrocities of atheistic communism. Stalin was responsible for about 20 million deaths and Mao Zedong’s regime for approximately 70 million. Pol Pot, who led the Communist Party faction known as the Khmer Rouge, killed over 1.5 million of his own Cambodian people. Add to these numbers the atrocities committed by Soviet dictators like Lenin, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev.

Jerry Bridges
When we commit ourselves to the pursuit of holiness, we need to ensure that our commitment is actually to God, not simply to a holy lifestyle or a set of moral values.
A. B. Simpson
The true fire is kindled at the Altar of Sacrifice. The false fire ignores the blood. There is much religious fire today which is merely the so-called “enthusiasm of humanity,” or the emotion stirred by eloquence, art or zeal for some human cause and selfish interest. It is not enough to believe in the Spirit, for spiritism and spiritualism all do this; but the true Spirit always comes in association with the blood.
Phillips Brooks
Distrust your religion unless it is cheerful, unless it turns every act and deed to music and exults in attempts to catch the harmony of the new life.
J. B. Phillips
Christianity is not a religion at all but a way of life, a falling in love with God, and through him a falling in love with our fellows.
Thomas Arnold
The distinction between Christianity and all other systems of religion consists largely in this, that in these others men are found seeking after God, while Christianity is God seeking after men.
Samuel Chadwick
The world will never believe in a religion in which there is no power. A rationalized faith, a socialized church, and a moralized gospel may gain applause, but they awaken no conviction and win no converts.
William Law
For he that does not look to the Spirit of God for all goodness and virtue must therefore look to some other source for some goodness and virtue. Yet whether one looks to his own religious self, learned in scripture doctrines, or to Satan, his religion is equally an abomination to God.
Gilbert Keith G. K. Chesterton
“Every man has a different philosophy; this is my philosophy and it suits me” – the habit of saying this is mere weak mindedness. A cosmic philosophy is not constructed to fit a man; a cosmic philosophy is constructed to fit a cosmos. A man can no more possess a private religion than he can possess a private sun and moon.
Evelyn Underhill
Faith is not a refuge from reality. It is a demand that we face reality, with all its difficulties, opportunities, and implications. The true subject matter of religion is not our own little souls, but the Eternal God and His whole mysterious purpose, and our solemn responsibility to Him.
