Life as a follower of Jesus it’s an adventure of faith, and the fuel to keep you going is passion – and unapologetic willingness plus enthusiasm to do what God has called you to do and be who he has called you to be.
Let the fires go out in the boiler room of the church and the place will still look smart and clean, but it will be cold. The Prayer Room is the boiler room for its spiritual life.
God is a Person, and in the deep of His mighty nature He thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, desires and suffers as any other person may. In making Himself known to us He stays by the familiar pattern of personality. He communicates with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills and our emotions. The continuous and unembarrassed interchange of love and thought between God and the soul of the redeemed man is the throbbing heart of the New Testament.
Let us not glide through this world and then slip quietly into heaven, without having blown the trumpet loud and long for our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Let us see to it that the devil will hold a thanksgiving service in hell, when he gets the news of our departure from the field of battle.
Disciplined runners consistently clear their heads and focus fully on the journey ahead because their passion and zeal for the goal supersede the strain. The goal beckons them onward. Passion doesn’t negate weariness; it just resolves to press beyond it.
I understand the design of such names as ‘fanatics, enthusiasts, madmen, etc.’ These names are fastened upon some of the zealous servants of God for the same purpose that the skins of wild beasts were put upon the primitive Christians by their persecutors, that they might more readily be torn in pieces by the hungry lions in the arena of the amphitheatre. Yet they were Christians still, notwithstanding these deforming skins, and so are we, though some cover us from head to foot with the hideous imputations of fanaticism.
The world is never moved by the mildly interested. We have only two choices if we wish to change the world, holy or unholy madness.
The Irregular’s Creed
I am an Irregular. I have no interest in normal, average, balanced living. I was both conceived and have been sent from another world. My orders are clear and non-negotiable – hear and obey at any cost. By mercy and grace, I have been set ablaze, rescued in perfect love, and established in family. I burn to do the will of my Father and to finish it. I am content to run with a handful of like-minded radicals with devoted hearts and a company with crucified ambitions. Silence, solitude, devotion, and concentration are the means by which my soul finds satisfaction. No longer yearning for the credit, the fame, or the fortune. I exist to see the Fulfillment of one great cause – on Earth as it is in Heaven.
