David knew that God had called him to be king, but he did not seek kingship. Instead, he trusted God to bring it about. On several occasions, David had an opportunity to kill Saul and claim the position God promised him, but he did not. He wanted it in God’s way and time, and eventually his patience and faithfulness were rewarded.
